June Stamping Class Technique - Sanding

It was all about sanding, and our Stampin' Up! Sanding Blocks were busy this past Monday.  Here are the wonderful cards that we created!

Also known as “Distressing Cardstock” , sanding creates a cool background.  Works well with any cardstock, but especially if you have cardstock with a white core as the sanding will reveal your white core.  Stampin’ Up! Has just started carrying this cardstock and here is an example.  I just got my order on Friday and did not have time to use it for our whole technique class but I was able to cut enough cardstock to use it on one of our cards.

Distressing card

  • Take a sheet of textured cardstock, that has a white core.
  • Holding the sanding block flat and level with the card, sand over the surface.

This will remove some of the color from the surface of the card. Especially effective, if the cardstock has a linen or textured finish, as that will give highs and lows, where the sanding block hits the high points and missed lower areas of the pattern.

Embossing
  • Another way to sand, is to run your card through a die cutting machine with a textured folder.
  • Then, sand over the raised area of the resulting embossed (or raised) pattern.
  • Tap off any access dust, resulting from the sanding to reveal the white card.
  • You could ink or paint with dabbers in another color, over the newly exposed white card.
Get clever with it, by selecting a single direction and sanding only in that direction. This gives the appearance of a light source. An alternative to highlighting with a white pen

Helpful Hint:  The scallop of the circle only has adhesive on the bottom of the scallop, so that when you open your card the white greeting opens up away from the scallop.  So neat!

Here is how the card looks when you open the top flap.
